Not at all obscure! He was the major supplier of barreled actions to the British gun trade through the 80s, and also made most of the Spanish doubles sold by British importer Gunmark, ie the Sabel line of SXS. Personally I would rank him among the top of Spain for the 80s.

You have a beautiful gun. If you got a good deal it was more likely due to barrel length than name. Churchill's are in a down market, but grouse hunters love them. Gorosabel is not obscure. People tend to only recognize the handful of makers still in business. Pedro imported into the eighties and made some fine guns. You will have to check the date, but from the looks of it, I imagine Diego Godoy was shop supervisor, a man still known for putting best guns right. Go to the Spanish forum on Shotgun World and you will find five pages of posts regarding proud owners of Gorosabels.

Thanks gentlemen, I think you are right about the barrel length, the main thing that held me back some. I mainly shoot doves & occasionally when I am lucky to get invited, pheasants.
