anyone familair with old percussion guns by Ulrich Boos & Sohn of STuttgart?

I see one that looks very interesting. single heavy twist octaganal barrel with back action hammer lock, adjustable double set trigger, an exterior "safety" hammer interceptor lever that will keep the hammer from falling completely on the cap. Looks to be a large caliber (50-54? cal or so) with perhaps 10-12 land raised rifling very prominently visible. Nice dimensions. No a Schutzen gun but appears more of a precision hunter.
wedge/drift adjustable front blade and adjustable leaf rear sight (with an arrow shaped front extension to help in adjustment). It also looks like there was a rear peep soght that is missing and a square "tube" on the right side of the barrel at the front that may have held another sight (Globe/peep to compliment the mising rear??) That tube is definitely original since it is the same twist steel as the barrel.

It seems to have the original stock (refinished) with a modest cheekpiece, fine checkering (worn), engraved steel buttplate, sliding wooden covered patchbox, held on to barrel with steel/brass wedges. Inletting is tight and it still has the original ebony ramrod. The trigger/hammer are crisp and light.

any thoughts? Offhand any idea on what something like this might fetch?

Makers name inlaid in gold on top of barrel.

Kind of an unusual name for a gunmaker in Arkansas! Kidding aside, it looks like a well made rifle. I don't have any info on the maker.

Guess you have to wear a John Deere hat with your LederHosen while chasing ducks.

Last similar piece I seen was made ca. 1839 in St.Louis, Missouri. That family came from Switzerland if I remember correctly.

Sounds about right for the timeframe. I figured roughly mid-1800s.
It is the odd piece at an estate auction and I could only take a quick look at it. I didn't see any obvious proof marks except possibly a very small stamp at the rear of the top flat of the barrel that could have been some sort of crown/crest with a point/elongated diamond base portion.
No other ID marks that I can see at a glance.

The general restraint and precision of execution would sound more like a Swiss than typical German maker.
There is some light scrollwork on locks, barrel, trigger guard and buttplate. The wood is straight grained and very well inletted with a form that reminds me more of a early US plains gun than a cuckoo clock.

The patch box on the right side of the butt is wood with a slightly raised/carved thumb-hold at the front. It slides out the back with the lifting of a small metal button at the base. the base is a cut-out part of the metal butt-plate.

The checkering is extremely fine pointed and simple. even tho the finish on the stock has obviously been redone the checkering appears original and untouched. The metal is slightly proud of the wood. Some of the screws have some slight buggering (mainly on the buttplate screws).

The rifling looked more like two-step raised/pointed, almost stepped pyramid, lands with deep grooves. The front sight has a small gold/brass bead.

The gun looks like the prior owner maintained it in a usable fashion and it wasn't too badly handled prior to that. The set trigger is a wonderful thing.

That looks like a lovely piece to hang in gun library or a den. This "Black Forest Maistro" knew how to screw a gun together.

I would be VERY tempted to use it.
No problem with the barrel walls being too thin. They are about 1/2" thick.
I'll have to bring a light tonight to see what the bores look like.

Might be worthwhile to pick up if no-one else takes notice of it and it goes REAL cheap. That could happen in this place.
Unfortunately I couldn't afford to keep it, so it would just visit for a while until I found a it new home far away from the People's Republik of New Joisy.

We'll see what happens.
