Haven't seen one of these in a long time. Back in the 60's some of the Boy Scout camps in WI had Mo-skeet ranges with this style smooth bore 22's.

interestingly, the rouledge concept works for real shotguns as well...example, have a 12 gauge hammer gun with 32" twist steel barrels. barrels walls a little too thin to shoot light smokeless loads. so, inserted 28" briley 20 gauge tubes. test fired with 7 1/2 field loads, at newspaper at 25 yards. achieved wonderful results! both barrels shot right to point of aim and produced uniformly dense patterns...

wonder how this would work with other gauges and barrel/tube lengths?

This particular gun has a recess choke(see inscription on the barrel) and I was certainly able to feel it when I ran some cleaning patches down the bore.
I believe these are also referred to as Jug" chokes.

I think Capstick wrote a piece about hunting dragonflys with a fully automatic BB gun. He probably was wearing a pith helmet with a leopard band.

Wow! You're right. I remember doing that back at Camp Wakonda (Eastern Iowa) in the mid 1970s...

Just to add the Brit view point to this Webley & Scott manufactured this type of .22 shotgun sold as a “Garden gun” they were extremely useful for helping the ubiquitous Rat and other not wanted small wildlife off their mortal coils. The gun came in to its own especially in farm buildings because of its low noise and very minor if any damage to the building because of the dust shot load. This was the very first “Real” gun I ever used in the 1950s very tame looking back now but to a seven year old it was the “Puppies Privates” to be let loose on your own with. Aaah Memories!!!

There was a Boy Scout camp around my area that had then also. Sidearm hand thrown mini skeet clays, couldn't have been more than twenty-five or thirty feet out.

Yes, I still have one of those little Webley and Scott .22 bolt action shotguns. I use either Eley or RWS .22 shot cartridges.

I do use a Winchester 9422 for rat shooting with shot cartridges but it will only work with the CCI ammo as the crimped rounds stick in the chamber after firing. About 10 to 12 feet is about the range; 15 yards is a bit ambitious. Nice little find. That CCI stuff is a bit dear over here though! Lagopus.....
