I know the barrels are oriented the wrong way for some in this group, but I'm hoping to find someone here that knows the early Browning Superposed well. I found an early one with the "double single" triggers, and it also had no sighting rib on the barrels. The barrel was matted. Nothing surprising in all that. However, the bead (sighting nail) was mounted on a little one inch long rib or riser at the muzzle, about 1/8 inch high and 3/16 wide, and not tapered in height. This little rib was pointed at the back end (pointing toward the breech) in straight taper, the rather sharp point being made in about 1/4 inch of length. The barrel matting was two nice little squiggle lines extending from the breech and ending just short of the tapered-in sides of that backward pointed little rib. The barrels were about 28.15 inches long, (715 mm). So here are the questions: 1) Is that little rib under the bead original and standard for non-ribbed Superposed barrels, and 2) Is that likely the original barrel length? The barrels are marked I/C and MOD (**- and **), and appear to be such at the muzzle, though I didn't get a chance to measure the bores/chokes. Thanks for any help you can give me.
