Just received a copy of "Engraving Historic Firearms" by John Shipper. Very well done book with outstanding photography. Spiral bound and kind of expensive but has a lot of good information with excellent how-to instructions.Never saw book mentioned anywhere before and found it on a Indian craft website.

That book has been out several years. It is a good step by step book to learn basic engraving. Mainly tailored to the rococo style used on muzzle loaders but it does lightly cover later styles. It was made as a spiral bound book so you could lay it flat and look at it as you work. It is not or was not at the time a cheap book by any means. I think I paid a little over a hundred bucks for my copy with my member discount.

One source for the book was the NMLRA. I found my copy at the Lexington CLA. CLA is the Contemporary Longrife Association.
