I am new to reloading shotshells. Is there any reason not to use reclaimed lead shot in Damascus barrels for clays? I will be using brass shells initially, so no shot cup.
Thanks.

There is good clean reclaimed shot and then there is bad dirty reclaimed shot.
Using QUALITY reclaimed shot, clean shot, No issue as long as the shot has been properly washed, culled of any gravel or stones, and checked with a magnet for any steel shot, re-graphited and tumbled. Mike
p.s. I use a shot cup in front of a nitro wad and filler wads in my brass shotshells, seems to work just fine. You are using Black powder?

The shop where I get mine has a jar showing what the shot looks like. And the shot in the bag looks the same. So just be careful when buying. If possible have the shop owner or staff show you some of their shot. Most stores won't allow returns on open bags of shot. Other than that, for just fun shooting, reclaimed shot is much cheaper and just as good as new shot. Good Luck!!!! Greg

Skeettx - many thanks for the kind invite - I'll take you up on that one of these days.
There are a lot of ranges in the SF area, but am I wrong in believing that many clubs don't permit BP? I also have access to a friend's skeet field in the hills nearby, but he runs an organic farm and prefers to use steel shot.
Greg, I was at a clays range yesterday and bought a bag of reclaimed shot. As you said, he had a sample jar on the counter, and it looked clean.

I do not know about the restrictions there, we can do it here, I have the keys to the range and can open it as needed.
17 trap fields, 5 skeet fields
Come and play
