Admittedly my abilities to understand how to achieve results using the "search" are minimal....probably laughable...at best. Given that, does anyone have a 9 X 57 load or loads with cast bullets they might share?

Vic,
The barrel in my 9x57 is not the best in the world, so I quickly switched to jacketed bullets for my hand loads. When I was playing around with cast bullets, they were Lyman 358318(200 gr) and 358318(250 gr).I intended to try cast pistol bullets, but never did. I tried the common, for the time powders(Unique,Red Dot,4198,4895) but now I would use one of the 5744s.If the faster powders are used,a filler may be helpful, as would sizing the bullets a couple thousanths over groove dia.In my experience, the groove dia. is more often .358 than .354-356 that is usually cited.

I would think that just about any cast bullet load for the 358 Win would work for the 9x57 with correctly sized bullets. I haven't loaded cast bullets in the 9x57 but have used them a lot in the 35 Whelen and 358 Norma.

Here's a link to a 9x57 search over at Castboolits.

Thanks Mike. The rifle isn't in hand yet so I can't slug the bore or check the twist. Your info is a place to start from. The bore is supposed to be good to very good.

oskar, I was thinking the same thing, about the .358 WCF, and using that data for a start point. COTW has a few loads with IMR 3031 and 4064 and one is a cast bullet load at 245 gr.

An old German friend of mine used 358 Win.loading data (norma)with jacketed bullets for his Mod 88,with complete satisfaction. No reason not to use 358 cast bullet data. The old books show using 35 Win(for mod 95)data for 9mm Mauser,358 data would be more avaliable now.

Good information, I haven't loaded for my 9x57 yet.

Mine's a tale that can't be told, my freedom I hold dear.
