In my previous post on browning, these barrels showed no damascus like pattern. They are old, but how old? These are about the only markings that are on them. They are Belgian, and are they longitudinally welded on a mandrel and is the 'wandering' line the seam?

Has anyone a guess on age and what the 'DD' (?) means. I will post a picture of the stock that has a neat Boar's head carved into the grip.

Last question is what would be the best way to finish them off to hang on the wall, browning?

Thanks for the help.

Likely 'Cast Steel'; either Huntsman hot-rolled crucible steel or Bessemer process. To form a barrel, a sheet was folded over a mandrel and the long edge hammer welded.

'DD' could be Jean-Baptiste Delcour-Dupont of Nessonvaux, but the gun looks to be mid-1800s and I don't know if he was working for Pieper that early.
MLs were made for export in Belgium even after 1900 however.

I guess it could also be 'gun iron'
An E. Remington & Sons broadsheet from 1854 lists "Matched barrels for double guns" -- Plain Iron $4.50 -- Stubs twist, plain $8.00 -- Stubs twist, fine $10.00 -- cast steel $8.00 -- and solid or drilled from single bar $15.00.

This may be a goat smile but the animal head stock is found on lots of Pieper guns

No he was not working for Pieper during that period.
