I have a Remington 58 semi auto 12 ga with a factory skeet barrel.
Measuring the skeet choke, bore diameter is .725" The muzzle is also .725" About a couple of inches back from the muzzle the bore constricts 8 thou.
A Tula choke in reverse? Has anyone encounted this arrangement?
The patterns are excellent.

My 1970s Bernardelli Elio SxS has that choke in the right barrel.
I Have a pre-war Birmy 28 gauge that has that choke also.
The choke is shaped like an hour glass.

The Remington models 1100 and 870 skeet guns in 12 and 20 gauge had the same style chokes in them. I don't remember about the 28 gauge. The .410 skeet guns had normal chokes of 0.005" constriction. The model 3200 O/U had normal taper/parallel chokes in all gauges.

Thanks guys! It patterns beautifully with Kent #8 1oz loads at 25 yards.
It will be my to go sporting clays gun. The trap barrel I got with it has been opened up to 10 thou and will be the duck and goose gun this fall.

Interestingly, several of our makers started doing that style choke when they brought out "Skeet" guns in the 1930s. Winchester had their WS 1. The Remington SKEET choke found on their Model 31 pump and "Sportsman" auto loaders had about .005" then a flare to the muzzle. Savage's Skeet Cylinder in the right barrel of their Ansley H. Fox skeet guns were similar. The ones I've measured have bores of .728" with choke to .723" 1-inch from the muzzle, the flare .017" to a muzzle diameter .740". I just measured a Remington Model 31 barrel with a bore of .726". at two inches from muzzle choked down to .720" then flares to .730" at the muzzle.

I have an 1100 dedicated skeet 28 ga in the safe. I'll dig it out and measure the bore to the muzzle and see what transpires. This is really interesting, I never knew all this went on!
I have an early Beretta 682 with the fat frame, I'll measure the more open chokes and see what is going on there too.

The 28 ga factory skeet barrel does not have the reverse Tula choke of its big brother, the last two inches or so are parallel bored 5 thou greater than the bore.
