Looking for around 1 1/4 oz load using Steel powder. I use it in 2 3/4 12 1 oz loads but have a 10 I would like to try for pass shooting snow geese.

Good question, Mike. If it's an old 2 7/8" full-choked double, the last thing you want is a barrel and rib separating bulge in the barrel (or worse) when large, non-compressible steel shot tries to muscle through a tight constriction, shoulder to shoulder.

It will be open chokes with no more than # 2s with steel shot cup. The steel powder in the 12 gives low pressure with good results around 1400 fps

Just did a scan of the BP Advantages Manual, latest edition. No Steel powder recipes. About 25 recipes for ITX shot with a low pressure of 7600 to highs of 10500. Only 4 steel shot recipes, but only 7/8 oz. The ITX shot recipes are from 1 1/8 to 1 3/8 oz. I don't have any Nice shot recipes, but be prepared to shell out bucks for Nice shot. In the ITX recipes, I see PB, Clays, Herco, Int'l Clays, SR7625, SR4756 and Universal Clays. I read on the 16 gauge forum (ammo and reloading section) that PB is being discontinued as well as 7625. There were some moans about 7625 being a good low pressure powder in the short 10. Gil

If you read the old Serman Bell DGJ articles giving short 10 loads 7625 was one of the most common. Hopefully I have enough to cover hunting needs.
The trouble is that no one gives loads for short tens for any new powder

Assemble a range of loads with the powder, wad and shot of your choice using currently available data and send them off to Tom Armbrust for pressure/velocity testing. Try to bracket what you think would be the correct combination. You might contact Tom for some guidance on that.

In BP's Status of Steel Revision 8.2 They listed 2 7/8 Winchester Fiber Base Wad Fio Primer 616 Powder HS-6 42.8 Wad BPD10-Tuff Plus 2 1/4 12 ga Wool felt in base of shot cup & thin mylar wrap 1 1/4 Oz of steel Press 10300 Vel 1410 Temp range 70F to 10F I have used this load in the past it it performs OK
There were two other short 10s with the fiocchi 10 hulls shortened but as I remember Fiocchi quit making the hull. I do have a Beretta single trigger 3 1/2 10 but I like the 2 7/8 gun better for handling.
With 1 1/4 oz bismuth I shoot 30 grains of Long shot in the 2 7/8 Winchester Hull using BPs gas seal 10x and a SP 10 wad. I usually load it with # 5s. I do not have the data for this load but have it somewhere in my notes that it was tested.
