I`m sure this has been discussed before but I`m looking into using brass hulls and BP loads for my 12ga. Any info on the process, data and vintage tools ?

I think that you will just need to be able to de-cap and re-cap. If they are going to be used in the same gun they shouldn't need re-sizing. In fact black powder produces much less pressure in the case so expansion is minimal. You will need to be able to measure out the powder; Lee dippers are excellent, then put in a card then a felt and another card wad. You can seat them with a bit of wooden dowel and you just need to seat firmly to put wad in contact with powder so there is no air space. No need to worry about wad pressure as such. Drop in the shot and finish off with a top wad. To fix in position you can just use a small amount of bath sealant or similar to hold the top wad in position. One thing is to clean the fired case soon after use as the burnt powder will take some cleaning off. Water with some washing up liquid should do to soak them then a cloth to dry and get the muck off. If bad just use some black powder bore cleaner. Best to de-cap before cleaning. Lagopus.....

Can you load the brass hulls with Pyrodex? If you can, what are the pros and cons of using Pyrodex as opposed to black powder?

Yes Pyrodex can be used. Pro - it is easier to obtain than black in many areas. Cons - it is more corrosive and costs more than black. Be prepared to clean the brass hulls at the range. I would dump them into a soapy water container as soon as possible and swab the bore at the range as well. Hodgdon provides loading info on their website. One caution, if you do use plastic hulls with either of these powders you should only use them once. Plastic wads are another issue as black powder will put a plastic mess in your bore. I don't know whether plastic wads are a problem with Pyrodex.

Pyrodex also burns very hot so plastic is not a good idea.

I`m having a bit of a problem finding load data for Goex. I tried their web site but they have little to offer.

Don't forget to get 11ga wads,12 ga will be too small.

The typical Goex load is the same dipper for shot and powder.

If you use a 7/8 ounce load of shot,
use the same dipper for GOEX FF black powder.

Use the appropriate height of wad fillers and that should do it.

If you use RMC hulls then 12 gauge wads are ok
For others use 11 gauge like Der Ami has stated

I loaded up both RMC and Magtec brass using Pyrodex, Black Magic, 777, Shockeys Gold and found I prefer the 777 as I was trying to get to 1200-1250FPS. I could not get the magtech brass using 11 ga wads to pattern at all. I was using a 3 dram equivalent loading with ~1 1/8 oz. The RMC brass with regular wads did quite well with any of the powders. I found the info at the below site helpful and bought the Ballistic Products book also http://www.tbullock.com/bpsg.html. At this point most of the time I am roll crimping paper shells and using the Ballistic Product short 12 gauge wads loading about 1.1oz lead over 80 grains by volume of 777. I need to run my loaded RMCs through my Flues and then resize to shoot in my Burgess. RMC has new owners. Their turn around time is faster but the quality in my experience is inferior to what Dave produced.
