I took two ruffs this weekend and thought the board might be interested in the results. I used a CZ Ringneck sxs in 20 gauge, choked cyinder and improved cylinder. I thought I had packed 7-1/2 shot, but later I discovered I packed #6 shot. The gun worked flawlessly. I shot grouse #1 at 10 feet and grouse #2 at 90 feet. The 10' took most if it in the head and the 90' grouse got hit in the back. Both breast were in good shape and quite tasty with lemon and pepper, I might add.
The load was federal #6 1oz 2-1/2 dram eq. I was just amazed that it had a thick enough pattern @ 30 yards to do such a good job. This is the first time I have used such open chokes and recommend the set-up to anyone. IM

Good job I/M and thanks for the info!!! Did you bust them out yourself or did you use a dog?? What percentage patterns is the CZ Ringneck throwing are they within the defined percentages? All the best

I just flushed them up myself. I have never patterned it with the cyl. choke. The IC saturates the pattern board @ 16 yards, though I have never counted the pellets for a percentage. P.S. A good dog might be nice.

Just FYI - I've run into SOME Federal loads with really hard shot. Really hard. My IC/M 20ga was printing F/F. These were 'Field and Range' marked.

Just got back, put up 3, got 2, also a bonus woodcock. Used Federal paper trap loads, 7½ shot thru a skeet choke. Took a 35 yard crosser, and found pellets on the opposite side of the breast with minimal deformation... I'll second the comment about hard shot in Federal loads. I'll also second the comment about a good dog. Words can't describe the feeling of seeing my Cocker come back with a bird, when I didn't see the bird fold in the dense, early fall cover.

I am waiting for the Huglu bashers! After all, they were shot with a CZ (Huglu)How could that happen. Everyone knows they are not a good shotgun, just ask all those who dont have one. Just a little poke in the eye and tongue in cheek.

Our grouse opener is this weekend. I'm like a kid at Christmas. The closer it gets the less I can sleep nights!
Can't decide between the L.C.Smith with spreaders or the 28ga. o/u. Or the Fox 16ga., Or the... Oh well maybe just throw them all in the trunk and head out to Western Md. Reach in and pick one with closed eyes and hunt with it
