Am I missing something or are shotshell reloading powders almost unavailable? If so ,why? My usual suppliers have nothing and they have not been available for a long time. What's up?
Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought stupid, than open it and confirm.

Hi Terry:
I stopped in at my LGS the other day and all powders were $30.00 U.S. per pound! The Bloody Hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got my name, Franchi, when I lived in Terrace, B.C.

I was looking for PB and found a bunch 6 lbs. in a farm and ranch store, they had Green Dot and Titewad all in 1 lbs. at a reasonable $22/lb. I've seen Red Dot and 700x in 1 lbs. bottle mostly from $20-$25/lb. No matter how bad I need it I refuse to pay gougers prices. I'd buy loaded ammo before paying rip off prices for powder or primers. Powder is trickling in but everyone is still gabbing everything off the shelves as fast as it comes in. If I hit the local store the day after the truck comes in I might get lucky. Only powder I'm in dyer straights for is AA 2230 for my wildcats 22-204 and 6mm-204 as I don't want to go through all the work up for good loads with another powder.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

I picked up a lb of titewad for $16 and some odd cents last week at a local SG store. The powder shelf had more powder and powder varieties on it, than I've seen in some time.

What's happening to all the powders? People like me are the culprits. Last week I found 32 pounds of PB and bought it all. Normally 8 pounds would have been way enough.

Especially for 12 and 20ga, with shot $40 a bag or more (if you can find it for that--I just picked up a bag at that price, $42 and change with tax), if powder gets too pricey, then you can easily come out ahead shooting "promo" factory shells.

Except for we who shoot old worn out, rickety, relics from the past. We're at the mercy of the snake oil salesman.

I use to reload to save money. The savings are just not there for 12 and 20 loads. Now I reload for low pressure and small gauge. You can still load 28 and .410 for major savings. I know there are low pressure factory loads but reloading can save money and give me more last minute flexibility to choose load to gun combo to suit.
I use six or seven different powders so if one is in short supply I just switch to another. You do have to call these days. Most web sites show no inventory but if you call they often have some but just do not bother updating. Primers are still in low supply so when I find them I always buy a few thousand. Perhaps 20 K on hand in five different flavors. If you switch powders you need more variety in wads, primers and how. Nothing is simple these days.

Hopefully Hodgdon will get back on-line soon. I understand their fire has a lot to do with the current shortage.
Such a long, long time to be gone, and a short time to be there.

As for testing the other barrel, that would just test the other barrel - it's a whole separate event.
Like others, I find the oxidation most interesting.
