As we know, the safety on our guns comes in a number of different shapes, outlines, designs. Occasionally I see the style of safety given a name, such as beetle, button or ramp.

Are there any definitions of these shapes? What other styles have people come across?

I can offer no help with your question, but have an interesting story.

I refurbished an older Ugartechea and the safety button looked like a rabbit turd dented to look like a golf ball and pushed onto the safety lever. I just figured while I was refinishing everything I would give it a slightly more attractive shape. I managed to take enough off the ball that it was nearly impossible to move the safety on and off.

lesson learned.

"Beetle, Button and Ramp" are the only named variants I can remember hearing about. I have heard about different types of safety mechanisms, such as the "rocker" or "dickie-bird-type" safeties versus a slide mechanism. It is my understanding that the "rocker" type is more desirable.
