Gentlemen:

Does anyone know who holds the production records for H. J. Hussey?

Many thanks...

I have been trying to track them down with no luck. Cogswell & Harrison has some of the records of Harrison & Hussey but none from HJ. I have been told that Francis Lovel in London may have some of the records but he is all but impossible to communicate with via e-mail and I have yet to get motivated enough to call him.

I am planning a trip to London in early and I hope to be able to do some research while there.

If you have a HJ Hussey I hope you will post pictures.

Try Atkin, Grant & Lang.

They may be able to help you out.

From what I have ever been told those records are non existant.
If you are wanting to date your gun then you can start by the barrel address and that wil get you into one of the ballparks.
As far as contact the above mentioned, GOOD LUCK!

Hi DLH and welcome.

There is some interesting info in these older threads:

Frederick Beesley had a good working relationship with Hussey, father and son. On 24 September 1918 he bought stock from Hussey, 5 x 12 bore, 1 x 16 bore and 2 x 20 bore. This was shortly after Hussey senior had died. These became F Beesley guns 2373 to 2380. Here are the Beesley serial numbers against the original Hussey numbers and, in brackets, the bore and year of Hussey serial allocation:

2373=515 (12 from 1906)
2374=14496 (12 from 1907)
2375=14569 (12 from 1907)
2376=15003 (20 from 1911)
2377=15004 (20 from 1911)
2378=15013 (12 from 1911) paired with 2379=15014 (12 from 1911)
2380=15023 (16 from 1911)

In December 1929 Stephen Grant & Joseph Lang Ltd and Herbert Beesley, who had taken over the F Beesley business by then, bought some of the Harrison & Hussey work-in-progress; the remaining stock and equipment was sold to the trade.
