I had a fitting done this week at Fieldsport in Traverse city and it was really incredible. Bryan spent a lot of time with me and couldn't have been more helpful or knowledgeable.
I was amazed to find that my ideal LOP is 16 and 1/8. I am only about 5'11" and pretty skinny , but apparently my neck eats a lot of stock. I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience being surprises by their ideal dimensions.

I would be surprised too.
Was he fitting you for a pre-mounted clays gun?
Any birdgun I ever used with more than 14-3/4"LOP invariably hung up when the birds flushed.

The fitting was done from the ready position that I learned from the Orvis wingshooting guide. I mostly hunt over pointing dogs, so I do for the most part have enough time to have my gun tucked under my armpit.

I normally shoot a short stock, around 14". I purchased a pair of English sidelocks that were originally stocked at 15 3/4" with heel and toe plates. I am reluctant to shorten the stocks and remount the plates, so I am shooting the guns with the original long stocks and doing pretty well. However, no matter how well I like my new pair of guns, I would never order a new gun with stocks this long.

Gunner it is sure going to be hard to find used or in stock bird guns with a 16" LOP. Custom gun, restock, or an extension would seem to be in your future. What were the drops at the heel and comb?
But whatever works works. Good luck!

Had my first sporting clays shoot (Catskills NY) last summer. I couldnt hit a thing with the gun I had, so my buddy let me use his o/u. I hit most everything I wanted to. Even birds and a bit, bouncing rabbits, shooting clays the guy on the stand missed, and doubling converging clays.
He is 6'2", I'm 5'4". the gun was a Citori special sporting pigeon, 30" barrel. Never shot a 30" barrel before. He paid $600 to have a fit, and rework the gun. The LOP was 15 3/4", DAC 1" 5/8. The gun was cast for a righty, I shoot left!
No way I could ever hunt with the gun as it got well hung up on low gun mounts. Pre-mounted...best I ever shot!
The bum refused a $1000 offer for the gun...imagine that!

I had a gun fitting by B Bilinski a few years ago. He was spot on except for LOP which he estimated at too long. We all know a hunter who habitually hunts low gun is better off too short than too long. But, Brian is pretty good at what he does IMO.

I have heard several places that the British fit a gun with longer LOP than is normal on this side of the pond...maybe that was an influence?

But the last thing I want to do is have one made that is too long. How did you end up figuring out your LOP? I am regretting that I didn't do the fitting from a low position instead of the ready position.

It's tough to get LOP perfect. Most people/fitters believe LOP the least important dimension. Also, for LOP double vs single tigger? For trap/skeet w single trigger I shoot 14 1/2" LOP. For a double trigger hunt gun measurement from forward trigger I shoot 14 3/4" LOP, but for DT you really want to be set up for back trigger and only use tip of finger for the front trigger. For Single Trigger bird gun i like 14 1/4" lop. Allso, heavy clothes make a 1/4-3/8" lop difference. You will have to figure it out on your own with trial and error.
