Even though my head feels/felt like the Polish Cavalry has marched through it and my nose runs like a faucet, yesterday was too nice to sit in my recliner reading and blowing my nose. So I grabbed the Peterlongo rifle, my Pact chrono and all the other stuff I believe I have to have when shooting....you all know the "stuff". Spotting scope and tripod, front rest, butt bag, shooting box with tools, targets....etc. Fortunately I only have to carry all that stuff about 75 feet to my back yard bench.
Got everything set up, targets on 100 yard frame, chrono screens aligned with the 100 yard target so I can sight it in and check velocities at the same time, spotting scope up....and commenced firing!!!
As lousy as I feel/felt I'm not going to say much about the group size. I could have killed a deer. Who am I trying to kid....I couldn't see worth spit and the bull was too small for the front bead. If it was 3 inches that's generous.
Velocity...about where I thought it would be given the predictions of the ballistics program an acquaintance in Florida used for the loads. Average was 2501fps for 10 rounds with just 2 falling into the 2400fps range and pulling it down. Not certain why those two did that....maybe the bright sunlight on the chrono eyes....maybe a boo-boo in the loads. At that velocity with a 200 gr. round nose bullet the energy calculates to 2778 fpe. Ought to be plenty for anything I'm liable to hunt.
It's been a fun project!! Boy did I learn a lot on this one. I have to again thank Mike Ford and Axel Eichendorff for all their help and advice.
