Guys-

I bought a pair of the 12 to 28 ga. Chamber Mates this past weekend.

I tried them in a Chas. Daly Superior (1960's) SxS and they worked pretty well.

Tried to get them into my Md 21 to try out. The chambers seem too tight to reasonably slide them in. I did tap them in with a small metal hammer but they were so tight the extractors on the 'Mates would not then work. Tapped them back out and both the gun and 'Mates were fine.

Wondering if I could throughly clean the chambers with a chamber brush if that would help or are the chambers really too tight to use them? Anyone else use them in a Md. 21?

Thanks,
Cory

The chambers are likely too short. This has been reported by others.. Not something you would notice otherwise.

I have the same problem with my early doubles and particularly the English Guns. Chambers too short and cant get them in or out easily.

If it is an untouched M 21, the "2 3/4" chambers were made too short on purpose at the time. Olin's people had found that the Super X worked best if the chamber was a bit short. I lengthened all 6 of my barrels, except the 3" 20 gauge, just a bit. So hit me, they are not original.

Seminole Gunworks makes a slightly shorter version of their Chambermates for older guns with shorter chambers. Nothing on their website, but if you give them a call they'll tell you about it and may even offer a swap.

This is a 3" gun but I still think they are too short. I tried them again last night and they are tight as hell the last 1/4" or so. I got them in but still too tight to use. Disappointing as I was excited about shooting 28 ga.'s in the gun for doves this fall.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'll call Seminole and see if they have shorter versions available.

Called Seminole. You guys are exactly right as normal. Even 3" older guns have shorter, tighter chambers.

Randy at Seminole was very nice and said to send them back in and he would send me a shorter set for my SxS's.

Thanks again all.
Cory
