Has anyone seen a Springfield 03A3 receiver that Old Western Traders is selling? I saw one comment that the receivers came off old trainers that were in pretty rough shape. Any actual hands on experience would be appreciated.

I just found out my dad has a fairly complete set of DCM parts so it wouldbe easy to make up the complete action. Thank.

I think the ones you refer to were "drill rifles" and were demilled by welding the chamber, bolt release and I think the firing pin, so as to not allow any firing of live ammo; used usually in parades. The thing about them that make them hard to "rehabilitate" is they were welded with a stainless rod and pretty damn hard to clean them up and reblue.

Jim,
There was not much standard about the way they were made into drill rifles, some may have used stainless and some didn't.Some had holes burned into thr botton of the barrels(in chamber area), some had rods welded into chamber and some had rods forced into chamberend of barrel, but not welded (I removed several for a friend that needed the barrel dates).I have seen quite a few of these actions put back into service. They seemed OK, but were mostly 03-A3s, because the A3 barrels were on hand.
