Our local paper reported today that Tom Gibbons of Lancaster, PA passed away on Saturday. I never had any dealings with Tom but remember seeing him at the York, PA gunshow back in the 90s with some high grade doubles on his table. He was 80.

Thanks for the news, Craig. Years ago, Tom sold me a great gun when I was on a visit to pick up a gun with a friend. The gun was $225.00 and was the only gun he ever sold me. I have known Tom for at least 45 years. He always regaled bystanders with my reputation for being a bit tight with my gun money. Bill Murphy

I always looked forward to his full page adds in Gunlist. It was pre-internet, his descriptions were colorful. terc

I thought I had bought a "Best ever found", "Never had a screw turned", "Collector quality" B-Grade Fox from him one time, but it turned out I was wrong.

Since the man has passed on I will not add my story to the list. It did educate me and saved me countless thousands over the years. His descriptions often reminded me of the old Herters catalog descriptions. Best ever, untouched screws, pristine, once in a lifetime find, yada yada yada. Still fun to read.

Eightbore was he the inspiration for your phrase "That gun has been to Pennsylvania"?
I am glad to be here.

The gun that my old friend Tom sold me for $225 had never "Been to Pennsylvania", but it was encrusted in rust and was holding a door open in his shop. I has turned out to be one of my most treasured guns, but Tom never saw it that way. Yes, I plead guilty to the "Been to Pennsylvania" line.
