Someone brought this to work. The gun says Ranger on it. There are two slots at the bottom. The frame was made for two triggers. The right bbl triggers as would be expected. The apparatus for releasing the left bbl seems pretty straight forward. However, I cannot figure out the function of the small part, indicated by the pen. I am sure that some of you have experience with this model? Any info would be appreciated.

just watched the first episode of Danger UXB, circa 1979 and starring Anthony Andrews...as Lef tennant Ash of the Royal Engineers. Ash is assigned to a bomb disposal unit in London, during The Blitz, where there were up to 300 unexploded German bombs at any given time...interestingly, the Germans developed a booby trap trigger, which caused the bomb to detonate, if anyone messed with it. it was known as a Type 17....K's pictures above, look remarkably similar to a Type 17 German bomb trigger.

Anti doubling recoil operated counter weight.
If working right it blocks the trigger upon firing in the full rear position. The shooter than must make a full release of the trigger before the left bbls selector system in this SNS system will engage.
Standard item in a single trigger set up on a two bbl gun.

A very light weight spring keeps the weight to the rear position,,then the guns recoil snaps it forward rotating it under the trigger to block it and do it's job.
If that spring is too heavy, it may not work at all (or if the load is too light). If the spring is too weak it may not reset properly and block the trigger pull itself.

The mechanism look like it works off the right hammer to set itself when the action is opened and move when fired.
Ithaca is similar

It looks to me like the inertia weight that travels forward on recoil to cancel the second, the involuntary, trigger pull.

As to how the sears are operated by the blades, I cannot tell from the photo.
