Jeff Cooper's area of interest and expertise was not double guns, but he was a man who appreciated and championed quality in all areas of firearms and their use, and we should take a moment to mark his passing. I have followed his career for more than 40 years. He was the father and originator of the modern technique in the use of the combat handgun, and among his many other works, I recommend "To Ride, Shoot Straight, and Tell the Truth". A true shooting legend has passed. It is our great loss. --Jack

Jack:
You are right. COL Cooper contributed much to firearms sports, as well as a great deal of thoughtful commentary on arms, the nature of citizenship and the ethics of defense.
RIP

It is really a shame to see the old timers disappear. I remember around 40 years ago I grew into shooting after practically memorizing Elmer Keith's "Sixguns By Keith". I have Jeff on tape (I watch a lot of TV, jOe) on Shooting USA from 2004 I believe. It was probably his last TV appearance that I know of. These guys sure made a lot of breakthroughs for so many people. God Bless them all.

Cooper's contribution was integrity in his reporting. He was reliable. He despised hokum. I always read his stuff, often without great interest in the subject i.e. sixguns. Few gunwriters stickhandled their way through exalted notions of consumerism and celebrity as courageously and beautifully as Jeff Cooper.
