I was invited last night to join a fellow on his lake tomorrow morning to shoot ducks. I have only one gun that I maybe can shoot steel thru.
Among the SxSs I brought down here from MT with me, I have a Poli Ivory Deluxe with screw-in Briley Titinium choke tubes. The ones in the gun are marked IC and L.Mod.
Can steel shot be used with these tubes? If not, I will reluctantly used some of my supply of Kent Matrix I acquired in the event I have to hunt pheasants in Game Production areas here in SD.
I really would hate to waste a 3 dollar shell shooting a duck, so I am hoping that these tubes will take steel shot.
The local gunsmith did not know if they are good for steel.
If anyone here knows whether they are compatible with steel shot, I would appreciate an answer today.
Thanks, guys.

Product Information
Shop more Briley products Titanium Mach 1 choke tubes are about half the weight of steel chokes and won't affect the balance of the gun as a steel choke might. Of course, all the features that make Briley tubes so great are still there; high resolution polished interior finishes, colored choke constriction bands and laser engraved choke sizes for easy choke identification at a glance. The Spectrums also have choke tube wrench slots under the colored band and a knurled band for hand removal.
Technical Information
Material: Titanium
Steel Shot Compatible: No
Notes: •Heat Treated
•It is Recommended by the Manufacturer that steel shot not be fired through titanium chokes or chokes having a constriction Tighter than Improved Modified
•Extends 1" or More Beyond the Muzzle, Depending on Shotgun Brand

Briley's website states that their titanium replacement chokes are for "Lead Only".
You shoot $3 apiece shells at pheasants and you think a $3 shell is "wasted" on a duck? Maybe you should reconsider even going.

Stan,
I hunt pheasant exclusively and this invite is from a landowner who has granted me access to his farm for pheasants.
If shooting flying liver with him keeps open the gate for pheasants, than I will shoot flying liver.
Thanks for the info on the choke tubes. I will use the tungsten matrix shells.
Daryl, These tubes fit flush with the muzzles, but they are a purple color and do have S-46 titanium etched on their sides and are not listed on their web page or come up on their search tab, which is why I asked here after reading the web page and is something I should have stated in my first post. See you in MT around the 22nd.

To quote the late Christmas Moultrie, a freed slave who became a low country market hunter: "Boss Man, you must not ever et summer duck."

I have shot many flats of steel T and Steel 2 through my Briley extended chokes. I use nothing but I Mod. They were recommended by Briley for my 3.5 Citori. The choke (constriction) is outside the barrel. Kills snows at 80 yards with 3.5 T's. My normal consumption is a flat of shells a season. The choke tube and the barrel still look good

bill,
Briley doesn't say you can't use steel shot in any of their extended chokes, just the titanium ones.
RCC, glad to help. Although I don't agree with your assessment of duck flesh, I do hope you have a good time tomorrow. Liver, really?
I'd rather have one woodie (summer duck) or teal than a truck load of pheasants. But, my opinion is worth not a whit more than yours.

I appreciate your help Stan and I appreciate that you recognize our taste in table fare is equal.
Since Kent will no longer offer 12 gauge 2 & 1/2 inch tungsten matrix I decided to run into town and buy an 870 and a box of Win Waterfowl loads in #4 steel.
I will give the gun and remaining shells to my host's son when we are through hunting tomorrow.

You may be able to use Briley's steel shot compatible choke tubes in your gun. Years ago I had them install "lead only" choke tubes in a BSS. Later when I wanted to use steel shot, I ordered a couple of their tubes approved for steel -- interchangeable, same threading and flush muzzle fit. Cheaper than buying another 870 if you get another invitation.

I did the same, utilizing extended steel rated thinwall Briley chokes in a BSS back when steel was all there was to shoot at waterfowl. Worked well. Worked even better with tungsten.
