I recently picked up a nice looking AyA 117 cased, two barrel set. The gun fits me perfectly, and I'm happy with it, but I haven't been able to find much information on it. It seems very solid and well built, chopper lump barrels, double underbite, and a hidden 3rd fastener. I'd appreciate any information about this gun.
Thanks

I am no kind of an expert on the AYA guns.
But I do have a catalog from Precision Sports that was postmarked in June, 1983, that shows the AYA Model 117. It was priced at $1,650.00 back then. A notch below that, the Model 116 was apparently their least expensive sidelock, at $1,125.00. The only difference that I can see is that the 116 had extractors, while the 117 was an ejector gun.
BTW - The Model Number 1 was $4895.00 back then, in 12 & 20 bore. And the top-of-the line S x S was the Senior (in 12 bore only), at $12,995.
Or so my catalog says.

Agree with redoak that the 117 looks to have always been AyA's least expensive sidelock ejector gun. Going back to 1963, it sold for $227 in this country. In the same catalog, the Model 53 is listed at $368.

I have an AYA 12 ga Model 117 and these IMO are great guns for the money. Mine's from the 80s and I have no idea what one would fetch today. Jim

The gun fits like a dream. I took it out skeet shooting last friday and crushed most of the birds even with the tight chokes. It got a lot of attention at the club, and some surprised looks when I told people that I was shooting skeet with fixed mod. and full chokes!
Mine does not have ejectors, only extractors. I know it is a 117 because I emailed AyA a few weeks ago and had them look up the serial number.
I'll try to get a picture of it up. So far I really like it.

I recently picked up a Webley 700 with mod and very full chokes and have also been shooting skeet with it. Granted, I miss more than my normal allotment but it sure is fun to see the occasional clay literally disappear in a black vapor with nary a sign of its previous existence. Fun.

A mod and full choke gun is not that much different than shooting a .410 skeet gun. They work quite well unless you start thinking about it and trying to be too perfect.

Turns out it's a 116 after all. I just re-checked my email from AyA and they said it was a 116, somehow I had 117 in my head. Either way, it shoots great and it's really made me come around to shooting shorter barrels. Barrel #1 is 25", and my usual go-to gun, L.C. Smith Field, has 30" barrels.
I'm helping to run my college shooting sports club and it's always fun to outshoot the rest of the guys who are all shooting black, plastic Berettas. Everyone assumes that my doubles are all ancient when I bring them out because they're not stocked with black plastic.
