My neighbor, knowing I'm a hunter and thus an authority, brought over a gun and asked me what he inherited. Once a pretty nifty little shotgun, it is a .410 hammer double with 26" barrels, not damascus. Unfortunately time, and whoever owned it, did not do the right thing. It is slightly loose on face and the lever is way to the left. It's had some hamhanded 'smithing, evidently with hammers and big screw drivers being the primary tools. The stock had broken at the grip and repaired, the forearm cracked and "repaired", both trigger guard screws are mismatched and the sidelocks appear to have been peened in an attempt to put the gun back together. With no marks other than "American Gun Co., New York" and the serial number, 1481x I'm assuming Belgium as it's origin? By the way, unless I'm WAY off base, I suggested leaving the "patina" and placing it above the fireplace of his choice.
