This story begins a few years ago,October 2001 to be exact. I had an exchange student from the Ukraine that had to go to New York city to visit the Ukrainian consulate. Having never flown to New York before and this being just after 9/11, I felt it was my civic duty not to "wuss out". So, I visited the big apple for the first time. Like any red-blooded country boy from Tennessee, I was determined to find a gun store. Find one I did, Holland and Holland. At that time they were on 57th (I believe). I walked in the store with my cowboy hat on and said, "howdy do" (which I was determined to do to everyone I met on the street--actually I found it to be a friendly city) and asked if I could go see the gun room. The manager took the time to show me any gun I wanted to see and basically let me have the run of the place. As I remember, I bought a gun rag and a gun cleaning kit and basically had a good time. They also loaded me up with brochures for safaris and stuff. Great people.

Having never forgotten the kindness they showed me, I was determined to someday purchase a gun from them if at all possible. Well, I got it in last week. A fine example of a 1908 Royal 12 bore. I highly reccommend dealing with these fine folks. Just tell Dave Cruz that Wally sent ya.

Congrats on the H&H Wally. I've been to H&H in NYC a few times and they always treat any customer well.

20 years ago I visited Purdeys in London and even though I was a scruffy backpacker, they treated me wonderfuly, gave me the tour and answered stupid questions. I promised myself that one day i would try to buy a gun from them, but alas, not yet.

Good luck with the Royal, shur is purty!

My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income.

Wally,

I like to hear those kind of reports!! Isn't it surprising what a little common courtesy can mean! I'd like the powers to be at a couple of the "large" shops to read your account. They might be more inclined to reply to e-mails and respond in a civil manner to phone calls.
Congratulations on a beatiful gun!

Ken

Thanks for the kind words about the gun, I am proud of it and I just want to give credit when credit is due. Oh, and here's a more detailed pic of the engraving form the H&H site. I feel that of all the "Best" makers the H&H Royal engraving is the prettiest to my taste.

Beautiful gun. I'd get that screw lined back up.

What are the specifications of the gun? Did H&H freshen the gun a bit or is it just naturally well preserved? Of course, in my vocabulary, it is a pretty recently made piece (less than 100).

Loosening a screw to line it up makes a lot of sense...

Is that what I said. I don't think so.
