Via the wonders of the Web, I now know who made the custom Stevens Boy's rifle. First Michael Petrov informed me that Mark Shaw was not the person for whom the rifle was made since he was born in 1939 and died this past December. Michael was kind enough to email me about Mr. Shaw, so I was not publicly embarrassed. I also took the advise of posting the pictures on the ASSRA'S website. That led to a phone call from Jeff Phelps who is a friend and fellow Wisconsinite. Jeff knew Mr Shaw, but had never seen this particular rifle in his large collection. Jeff also said he was sure he had seen those tiny diamonds on another single shot stock, but he couldn't remember who made it. Jeff called back today to tell me he finally remembered that it was on an M. S. Hendrick single shot. Hendrick operated from 1884 to 1930, and this rifle is in the same time frame. Since Hendrick was in Aroura, Il, I called Dennis Hrurosky who not only lives nearby, but also collects IL made long guns. I only got ae far as saying I just bought a little gem of a custom Stevens boy rifle, when Dennis blurted out "Merton Hendrick".
