I found what appears to be a G&H Springfield - metal looks great, Lyman 48 sight, etc, all G&H marking on the barrel & floor plate, no signs of refinish polishing. The receiver ring is matte with no markings. I'm suspicious since it looks too good.
Also, it's been stocked in a modern style that makes me think the metal might be reblued. I did not see a G&H number anywhere. Where did they put these?
Regards, Ron

Photos please. Is this a Springfield factory sporter that was modified by G&H to their specs or a military rebuild by G&H? I am a big fan of Springfield sporters.

I won't be able to get back to the shop until next weekend. I'll try to get pictures then. There were no numbers on the barrel that I could see. Regards, Ron

We will look forward to the next report. I would be very interested in any writing on the floorplate.

Many but not all, maybe Bob will come along and explain.
My database on G&H has over 1020 rifles.

Michael, The G&H # is 1447. The rifle has been offered for sale on line as well has showing up at a local shop. The owner says it was made in 1936 and purchased new by his grandfather. If you google "1447 griffin and howe" several links pop up.
There is no writing on the floor plate - my memory of the brief look a week ago was faulty. The metal is in nice condition - almost too nice. The stock has a more modern cheekpiece than I'd expect on a 1936 rifle and a fore end tip with a white spacer. So I suspect it's a restock from the 50-60's.
I'll try to attach pictures. Regards, Ron
