OK Whitey and Co

I have a new project about to launch - its a Husqvarna 1600 (special grade with nicer wood and checkering) in 6.5x55. Its been 30 years since I owned a 6.5x55 so it'll be like a date with your high school sweetheart.

Here is a link - I haven't won this auction yet but don't worry, I will. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=607152646

So - the buttstock on this rifle has been shortened by 3/8 to 1/2". I am 6' with long arms so its gonna have to grow back. I don't like great thick recoil pads, so my though its to use a spacer made of a "plastic ebony" and then a slim rubber plate.

How else might I handle this and do you have photos of the result??

Thanks

Foster

I suppose it is a matter of personal taste but to me a thick buttplate looks better than spacers, etc that give it a stack of pancakes appearance.

I tend to agree, but I have seen somewhere some "english" (??) rifles with quite thick polished black spacers that looked ok, trouble is now I want to really look at them, can I find them - Nooo !

Itīs very odd but in sweden those 1600 -series Husqvarnas are very cheap, much cheaper than older 640 -series ones. The last named, however, has a real m98 Mauser action so maybe itīs one reason for that strange situation.

Foster,
These are nice rifles, but the trigger is a bit different that an 98 mauser. They're a nice light deer rifle.

I picked up one a few yrs ago in 270 win that had be imported by Sears. The 270 barrel would not shoot well, so I rebarrelled it to 6.5X55 with a Shilen blank. The trigger was a bit heavy and the commercial Mauser triggers I had on hand did not work, 98 or even one for the Swedish 96. In the end I drilled a new hole for the trigger pivot pin to change the geometry for a lighter trigger.
Regards,
Ron
