I'm a lifelong hand loader and hoarder of hulls. I've accumulated nearly a thousand Kent steel hulls over the years. Can someone confirm if they are Cheddite or identify as to maker if not? I'd really like to put them to use. I'll be off on a roadtrip next week and plan to hit both Precision and Ballistic Products to stock up on components and avoid shipping/hazmat fees.

Steve

Steve sans the customary 4 stars that usually identify Cheddite hulls you might check the water volume against a known Cheddite hull. If it is the same load up three shells with your favorite load and send them off to Tom Armbrust at Ballistics Research to verify pressures and muzzle velocities.

Tom's contact information is:

As far as I know they are Cheddite. An e-mail to Kent Cartridge Co. may help. They are made in England by Gamebore and also sold under the Kent name. http://www.gamebore.com/game/contact There seems to be a U.S. distributor but I don't know whether they import or make under license. Lagopus.....

They used to be the same. I was given a couple very large boxes of new hulls, from which the powder and shot had been salvaged at the Kent factory, and from which I salvaged the Cheddite primers. The hulls were all sliced up in a spiral fashion from the factory's salvaging operation, but I could see clearly that they were all Cheddites. I got thousands of primers from them. They were all 12 and 20 ga., being a mix of every different Kent hull I've ever seen. Almost all were damaged in some way during the loading operations.

I assume that the factory considered the powder and shot worthy of reclamation, but not the primers. I only worked on them when I had absolutely NOTHING else to do. sleep
