Gents,

I have an opportunity to purchase the below Model 32. I'm interested, but would like your opinions on what it will take to clean up the corrosion on the action and barrels and clean up the wood. From what the pictures show, is this a difficult/expensive project or something that should be fairly easy?

Sincerely,
Patrick

It depends entirely on your interest in restoration.

To make it a shooter, not a lot of effort.

To make it factory new, a lot of effort.

Call Krieghoff, they have worked on some Rems smile

You can send it to Krieghoff and they will do anything
you will pay for.

I don't think the folks at Ottsville will work on a Remington shotgun. The first time they looked at it, the bill would exceed the value of the pictured gun. The pictures really don't show the extent of the metal abuse. It should make a good shooter for about $350. If the barrels are 26", the value goes lower.

I have a gun similar to this, it is one of my favorites. I asked DelGrego (whose name comes up in association with these guns a lot) and was told $800 for a full reblue. As I am incredibly cheap I decided that fading blue suits an 80 year old gun quite well.

Just an aside, I think they only offered the double triggers through 1938. Only about 5,000 of these guns were built so there aren't a whole lot of them to be had either.

I will buy every one of these guns offered for $350, sight unseen regardless of condition. There was a ratty barrel set that sold on Ebay several months ago for nearly $700.

No, it's not a Browning nor is it a Beretta neither of which is made in the USA. It is Remington made in the USA when American made guns were handfitted and well-crafted. It was an innovative design and a well made gun. A design strong enough to withstand the rigors of competitive shooting to the extent that the German gunmaker Krieghoff thought enough of it to acquire the right to manufacture it under their label as the K32. I'd love to have one. The one depicted below with 20 gauge barrels is a buddy's. It was his grandfather's gun who had Simmons complete it into 4 barrel set. It was hunted hard by the grandfather and shot in competitive skeet. Billy's father inherited it and hunted it hard into his 80s. Billy now hunts it and some day his son will hunt it. It is one tough gun.

I agree. Believe Mike McIntosh had one at one time. Interesting that two of the great heavy and solid two-holers from the Depression era are still alive today, albiet in different 'costumes" the Rem 32 a la Kreighoff, and the Winchester M21 a la Galazan-- stout, rugged, good Yankee Americana of another era indeed.

The Remington 32 and the Krieghoff 32 are wonderful guns. I own and shoot several of both. However, answering your original questions will require better pictures. We don't really know what's going on with the metal.

I had her out for a quail hunt anyway, so I thought I would show the old girl off a little. Nothing says "vintage O/U" like double triggers and a plain barrel.

Seems like a good candidate for a do-it-yourselfer to learn on.
