I finally may be able to escape from the People's Republic of California, and re-locate to the south east. I would appreciate any advice on how to move a 100+ pieces gun collection.

I may move in a few years and when I do I'll simply package everything in well padded cases, rent a trailer and drive them to the new location. It's hassle free. Otherwise I believe because you can legally ship a gun to yourself at your new residence, you could just invest in proper packaging and pay the freight costs.

I bought a six-foot tall, three-foot wide metal storage cabinet with no fixed shelves and locking doors and laid it flat on its back in the bed of my pickup which has a locking shell. I positioned the truck at the foot of the steps to our condo, and went to bed. At 3 am my Wife and I loaded the steel cabinet with all the cased guns, locked it and buried it benieth boxes of computer equipment and other household items. By 6 am I was on the road west from the Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC. Didn't stop for the night until I was past Chicago and out of the peoples republic of Illinois into Wisconsin.

My brother and I rented a pretty large rental truck with a lift gate. Put the safes into the truck on their back and packed the well-cushioned guns into the safes. Packed the rest of the stuff around the locked safes.

I moved 20 Parkers from IL to LA by wrapping each in a moving blanket/pad and then putting them in a paper drum. I then explained to the NA driver what they were and a rough value. He looked a little pale when he found out the value but took very good care of them. bill

yep did it in May. Moved from FL to PA. I put them all in cloth cases, put them all in giant cardboard boxes (wardrobe box) and moved them with the family in the van to our new location. 2 people, 2 Airdedales, 1 cat, and 35 shotguns,2 rifles and 3 pistols! Too much hassle and possibilty of loss any other way I think.

That's the way I'd do it. I'd either drive them across the states myself or have a good friend do it. I would never ship them that's for sure. Rent a U-Haul, pack them good and go for it. Don't get any tickets. Take the coil wire off the engine at night if you stop. And sleep with one eye open.

Just don't stop and drive all the way. Take a couple of friends so you can take turns driving. OR, just sell all your cool guns here on the forum -- we'd be glad to take them off your hands in a moving sale!

I would be concerned that if you are stopped and found to have that many guns, there may certain state laws that could land you in trouble. I am not sure but I vaguely recall that NY state has a law about traveling with 10 guns or more. Have you checked the states you will be passing through?
So many guns, so little time!

Driving them accross the country is not an option. I was thinking about making custom crates for the guns, and contacting Brinks,Dunbar or one of the other amoured car services to ship them. I'm more concerned about security than cost.
