From the photo, that looks to be the same action as BSA (and probably others) put on their Model 12 and 12/15 target rifles. Engraving of the rifling on a seated bullet was SOP. Those actions have been made into all the hot 17 & 22 rimfires and have been modified for center fire Hornets & maybe even Bees.

Not sure if Greener had an understanding with BSA or if he made all his own actions.I gather this action is the mk3 which can be easily removed intact for cleaning.
I checked the twist, 1/17 inches so should shoot LR fine.

If it's rifled 1-17" I would guess that it was intended for the LR cartridge from the start. The .22L designation on the barrel may well be a 'matter of semantics'?

My Greener is different than my BSAs.The BSA "insides" come out in an assembly, but my Grenner does not. They have different threads for the barrels also.BTY these are Cadet rifles, not commercial.I have seen BSA rifles with Greener barrels,so there seems to have been some cooperation. The quality seems to be the same. These little actions are amazing for their strength, and make nice rifles.Just one persons opinion.

Greener made both "Cadet" and sporting miniature Martinis. The miniature Martinis that allow the entire action to be removed after the withdrawal of one screw were designed by Francotte. There are some folks who are of the opinion that Francotte supplied unfinished actions to BSA and other British makers who used that system. The British were quite cavalier in their marking of .22L.R. firearms. Some were marked ".230" while others were marked ".22L"

If this were my rifle in the condition you describe I would hope it shot shorts. that is all that is on the shelves here in Indiana. See what amunition it likes. I would not even consider relining a rifle that shot shorts well to a lr. If you have to shoot farther get another gun.
