Very interesting looking Remington Hammerless Double. Looks kind of between C and D quality. Remington Arms Co. did offer Whitworth barrels on their $750 Remington Special. By the serial number this gun would have been in the last 600 Model 1894s produced in 1910.
Remington Arms Co. saw that their shotgun future was with their John M. Browning designed Remington Autoloading Shotgun and John D. Pedersen designed Remington Repeating Shotgun and concluded a deal in February 1910, to sell their entire inventory of break-action guns to Norvell - Shapleigh Hardware Co. of St Louis. So, there were likely some unusual combinations of bits and pieces in those last guns. Probably some special guns for those with an inside track at Ilion as well!!
