I have a chamber cast that I did on a walter kirsten drilling. I can't find any info. for this cal.. Can anyone help in identifying this cart. and any other info that will help me put this old goody to use again. I have pics. buy not able to put them into this forum Pligrim

Assuming the 8.8 is from the proof markings this was the bore diameter not including the rifling grooves. Most likely it is the 9.3x72R cartridge. Compare specs for that cartridge with your chamber casting dimensions.

I agree with 2-piper here having had to sort out some of the German calibers in the past. One good thing if it's 9.3x72R is I believe this caliber is still commercially available.

But compare your measurements to the standard 9.3X72R because there is a Sauer that has the same name but a different case. And there are some other variations of the normal case too.

Good advise Mike. The 9.3x72R is a straight tapered case while the 9.3x72R Sauer has a slight bottleneck case. It also has a larger head diameter than the more common 9.3x72R.

Be aware that there more than one versions of the 9.3x72R(in addition to the Sauer).One often found version(9.3x72R D)will not chamber the currently avaliable (9.3x72R Norm)ammo.The "fix" is pretty easy, though.
