This one followed me home from Tulsa. Well done sporter using the original Winchester target stock. One interesting thing about this one is about 4" was cut off the end of the barrel and the original front sight base reattached. As the sight base was integral to the barrel originally, the gunsmith had to machine the barrel off, leaving the front sight so it could be soldered to the new end of the barrel. He even crowned it just like the winchester crown. Took me a while to figure that one out. The barrel was not set back as the muzzle diameter is bigger than on an original 52, and all the markings are still in the right place. I recognize those sling swivels, but not sure from where, anyone? The trigger guard has been nickle plated so I'll need to get that striped and have it blued. John

I once bought a Model 70 through Shotgun News which the seller described as having the barrel shortened and the ramp relocated, which struk me as odd, since the Model 70 ramp is integral with the barrel. AS it turned out, the Model 70 was a pre-War carbine, worth a great deal more than I had paid for it.
Years later, however, I did buy a Model 70 which had had the barrel shortened and the ramp relocated the way you describe your 52 was treated.
Incidentally. I note that the target scope bases, which are intended for early Lyman target scope mounts, are mounted backwards, since the pointed screw which fastens the mount to the base using the hole in the side is located on the left side of the mount, rather than on the right side as was the case with later model Lyman, Fecker and Unertl scopes.

xausa, Isn't the Winchester 5A like that? I believe it is. The new MVA reproduction of the 5A is like that.

Actually, the Winchester designation was A5. Lyman bought the tooling and manufacturing rights to the A5 in 1928 and changed the name to 5A. The Winchester four point mounts remained the same. Lyman continued to manufacture the 5A until 1934, when the new Targetspot scopes were introduced, still using the Winchester type mounts. In 1937 the Junior Targetspot and Super Targetspot scopes were introduced, along with a new three point Fecker type rear mount and the indexing screws relocated to the right side.
All the above information taken from "Old Rifle Scopes" by Nick Strobel.

I can never remember which one had the A first. My Strobels is too far away to bother so I didn't double check.

Has anyone ever seen something like this done with a Remington 37?

I think it was in the AR or Rifle that they did an article on sporterizing the 37 back in the early 80's.I had an early rifle that some idiot butchered and thought about doing a sporter. The 37 is an awesomely made rifle with the machined magazines and great trigger.
