A local dealer has a Fortuna marked double 12 that appears to be a pure Merkel. Can anyone fill me in on this maker?

Fortuna was one of the "brands"used by the East Germans to market guns produced in the old "name" factories in Suhl. See earlier threads on this forum, such as "GDR Merkel SxS information wanted". I think the Fortunas ( or at least some of them)were made in the old Merkel factory.

Mike- Thanks for the thread. I have the Arfmann/Kallmeyer book and found the Fortuna info on page 87. Now looking for the Jim Cate book on Sauer.

Jim Cate's third book on Sauer sporting guns is for years 1751-1945. It probably will not help you.

Need a date of production. I've got a Fortuna Suhl 12 ga. with heavy game scene engraving,Monte Carlo stock,specialGewehr Lauf-Stahl S.G.1 barrels.and a 4 digit serial number. Can anyone help me.
