Can someone identify the double in this photo for me? It was stolen from my home yesterday and all I have is a photo of the barrel markings. I need more info for the police report and possible value. I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. Unfortuantely, I can't help with identification. However, there is a gentleman named Raimey who frequents here and may be able to help.

The barrels were proofed in France and the gun appears to be a 16 ga. with 2.5" chambers. The other stamps appear to refer to the grade (Silver Medal) and the barrel steel (Crucible Steel) - these seem similar to designations used by Verney-Carron. As Doverham said, the gun has French (St. Etienne) proofmarks. It's pretty unusual to find French-made barrels on anything other than French guns, so I'd be confident in saying that what you have there is a French 16ga. I don't think the silver medal refers to the grade of the specific gun, however, but rather to a medal awarded to the gunmaker in question. Unfortunately, there's no way to tell the make of the gun from the photo you provided. And there might not have been a maker's name on the barrels or action--although the "silver medal" makes it somewhat more likely that the maker would have been identified. No way to estimate value from that photo. Good luck in recovering it.

Just to add that the gun was nitro-proofed (PT). The single St. Etienne proofmark on the barrels might tell something about quality of the gun, but Larry is better equipped to comment on that.
You don't have any photos of you and the gun in the field that might help identify it?

Sorry for your loss.
The gun looks like a run of the mill double shotgun pre WWII.
16 Gauge, 65mm, Nitro single proof, dovetailed lumps and extractor. No recognizable name to speak of.
"Medaille d'argent" means silver medal.
Of course nobody would be able to know in which setting this would have been obtained. Could be the county fair.
This marking does not help in any way in assessing a value.
From what I can see, I would say that the gun value maybe anywhere between $250 and $1000.
The only thing unusual is the rounded shape of the back lump, but that does not help much at all either.

Regards Tim is correct about the nitro proof. Single French proof was fairly stout, so not necessarily much there to help with quality.
