The old Miroku O/U have always appealed to me because of the engraving, but I've avoided them because I'd heard that parts were impossible to get. The new Citori 725 appears, on the out side at least, to be the same design as the old early Mirokus. So the question:
http://pdflike.com/read.php?url=http://www.camsport.co.nz/reviews/miroku_ou_model_70_sporter.pdf
I found a Miroku that won't lock up. It appears that the little piece that slides back and forth (that I believe activates the cocking rod on the receiver) has been "forced" and does not go full travel, thus interfering with the gun's closing. That piece needs to be dressed so as to allow it to have full travel.

Or does the gun need to be cocked before connecting barrel and if so is that cocking rod pushed straight back? And how?

Thanks

Well, you heard wrong. There is a company called BNC Gun Supplies in Lake Havasu, AZ that has thousands of Miroku parts including wood.Look them up on Gunbroker. They are excellent guns. I just picked up O/Us in 12 and 20 as a gift for my African PH and his son.

If Wisner's is still in business they are a good source of parts and gunsmithing for the Miroku as well. I needed all the forend ejector parts for a trap version and Wisners had all of it and did the gunsmithing. They were very reasonable.

The gun should go together cocked or not .If itdosent then dont force it till it has been put right as more damage will occur .Try taking the cockin peice ou of the forend being careful not to loose the spring and see if it is that thats the problem . If you can not do this youself go to someone who can. If the guns for sale then it should be sorted before it is sold ,if it is not then ask yourself why and avoid .

Any background info? I've never heard of a catastrophic failure of a Miroku O/U.

Thanks,it's as I thought, an easy fix. It's not my gun so I'm an observer here.

Pooch,
Don't go there asking about that blown up Miroku.
It ran for page after page on shotgunworld .com.
Every possible likely cause of that catastrophic failure was met with " No it couldn't possibly have been that" Sufficient to say that the owner / user was unharmed and was using homeloads.
