I am interested in a non-double rifle at Cabelas in Rogers, MN. I have e-mailed them more questions on the gun, but want to know this esteemed group's opinion on the Cabelas Gun Library in general, and the Rogers location in particular. Here's what I am assuming the procedure to be: Living in Calif, I will send them a check and copy of an FFL. They'll ship it to my dealer, where I will have 3 (?) days to inspect the piece. If I regect it, I hustle it back to them to get a refund minus shipping. Is this correct? Shipping costs are my main risk, right? Anybody have a warm body contact, (that sounds weird now that I write it, but so what, I am from Calif.),that they would recommend I ask for on the phone? Thanks, as always, Lou M

Cabela's will definitely take it back, no questions asked, if you don't like it. I've been in the Rogers store, did a deal or two with them, but I haven't developed a relationship with any particular GL employee. Suggest you go to the Cabela's website, pull up the Rogers store, and talk to the individual (or one of the individuals) whose name is listed as the GL contact.

I would call Mark Lee at the store 763-493-8625 email: Mark.lee@cabelas.com He is knowledgeable and good to work with. I bought a new gun by mail ( I'm in Chicago) and things went wrong -- not his fault. But we worked through the problems --I never felt abandoned. I am pleased with the purchase and service. I am sure that he will work with you on your time frames.

I have spent many, many dollars at Cabela's over the years (although I never bought a gun from them). You cannot fault their customer service; it is second to no company I have dealt with. You may not get the best price on things (any more), but your money is safe with them if you want to return something.

Thanks for the replies. I am waiting on a reply from an e-mail quiry sent last night, from home.
Is there ever any "wiggle" room on Cabelas' GL prices?
An inspection period does not include test firing for functioning I suppose.
Will I eat the shipping both ways if I decide to not purchase?
thanks,
Lou M

There is an interesting thread on this board (another great forum with lots of knowledgeable collectors ready to share), about Cabelas selling faked War Time Walther PP's and PPK's.Its a shame they can't have the knowledgeable staff to prevent this type of action that hurts their good (but expensive as far as gun buying) name. http://luger.gunboards.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10720

Lou, if it's a used gun, you can shoot it and return it if you're not satisfied. You won't eat the shipping cost to you; you might or might not eat return shipping cost; not sure. All my deals with them have been face to face (although I have had several guns shipped from other GL's to Owatonna, so I could take a look at them). And I have found that the GL's are always open to offers lower than the tagged price. How much lower depends on the specific gun.
