I have seen on here that shotgun dents can be taken out. I was wondering if (hypothetically) a double rifle (say .500 caliber) was dropped and the right barrel was dented in on the side near the muzzle. Can the dent that would affect the interior diameter of the bore be raised? Can raising be done on both steel and damascus barrels?

I would bet that the right highly skilled gunsmith could do it.My thinking goes raise the dent part way, rebore the area , rerifle the area, draw file the exterior, polish, and reblue.
Now about cost, four figures or even five, liability insurance for the smith? 20 years ago there was a guy in the Columbus area
that had the skill.

Maybe in the UK where it could be proofed, here in the states, I doubt it. Sure sounds like BIG money

considering the wall thickness of a modern DR, I think if you hit the barrels hard enough to deform the bore you'll probably be having more problems than just a deformed bore.

I'll add only that I sure hope you really are speaking hypothetically.

I saw a .577 Snider double that had a dent on the right barrel about 2" long at the muzzle. I don't own it, but it would be a shame if it could not be fixed.

I would second that,although if the dent is near the muzzle,the barrels could possibly be shortend the re-regulated.

I almost can see a nice DC (Double Carbine).
