When did intercepting sears start showing up? I can't seem to find any real info on this.

I'm in the early stages of a percussion double rifle project and am trying to find either an elegant, hopefully period, or at least totally hidden way to add this to a percussion lock.

I KNEW there would be a relevant patent, but I just couldn't find the right search terms to come up with it.

I was hoping it would be one of those things that was patented 50 or so years before it became popular, but I guess not. No worries, I'll figure a hidden method somehow.

Do Manton's automatic safety locks that locked either the sears or the hammers of a double barrel muzzleloaders when the barrels were facing to the sky, to prevent accidental discharge when being loaded, count? These date back to around 1820 or so...
