Walter, The serial number is 433920. The barrel flats have the numbers 2 and 4. The water table has the serial number and says F 20. on the bottom of the barrel lugs is says F 1. The stock has been cut to the point of, in my opinion, needing replacement. Thanks for any help. Jake (Craig)

Walter, It helps indeed. Thank you so much. Care to venture an opinion on its value? Best Regards, Jake

$1300 to $1500 depending on the usual things. How short is the stock? Factory default was about 14 inches.

Walter, The stock is about 13.5" with a recoil pad. It doesn't look right. As for the "usual things," the gun is tight with good color and blue. Barrels ring fine. Rib is tight. Triggers and safety and all seem fine. The dealer has the gun listed at $800. He has indicated he might negociate Sounds like I best get my tail down there and close a deal. I do know where I can find some nice gunstock wood. Thanks for your help. Jake (Craig)

My experience with NIDs shows that the early guns, like the Flues before them, can be a little off in barrel length. I've got one that Walter has vetted as being in the records as 30-inch and it is actually 30 3/16 inch. That is the most off I've found. Also, it has been my experience that the NIDs from 1926 to 1935 that I've run a bore mic in have been overbored while those from 1936 on have been true to gauge and dead on the even barrel lengths. Out of all of my Ithaca's only one of them has bbl size true to the description and that is the wifes 4E Flues with 26" bbl's, SST, raised rib, english stock with a checkered butt of all things.......I even have a 2 bbl set 4E which both bbls should theoretically be the same 30" length..... theoretically.... but they arent.

Ok. Made the purchase. Thank you Walter. When I knew the barrels were right, it was a no brainer. Really cute little gun. Pretty darn good condition. The blue is excellent. Quite a bit of case. Locks up solid as a brick house. I took some snap caps and the cocking indicators and locks work fine. Even the trigger pulls are pretty darn good. I have to wait 10 days to take it home here in Cali. I bet it doesn't weigh over about 5-12. Definitely needs a new stock but, hey, nice little gun. Walter, thank you again for your knowledge and help. Craig

Craiig, Good luck with the gun! Don't toss the old stock. There are a lot of "shorties" that can use it. Shooting school at Orvis told me that 13 1/2 was my stock length, actually, I find a 14 inch lop better but---. How did the chokes check out? Best, Walt

Walt, The chokes and bore ends "look" right. I didn't take a bore gauge and the dealer didn't have one. The barrels looked right inside and out. Since they were the original length (thanks to your insight) I am pretty confident. When I actually get the gun, I'll let you know more. Regards, Craig
