Gentlemen,
Would appreciate recommendation(s) on Insurance Companies and agents that you have experience with on upper end working guns.
Want companies that will insure guns while they are out of the safe and being used out of state etc..
Anyone have any positive or negative experiences with a claim? Also are any companies rates more favorable.
Thank you
Paul

The first step might be to simply talk with whoever insures your house and other household goods.

I do not have a separate rider or separate policy on my guns - the fewer people who know I have them the better.

This is the most recent insurance thread:
http://www.doublegunshop.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=246803&page=1

This seems to come up from time to time. However, I have never gotten a straight answer as to the claims history on the companies touted to have the best rates.

Perhaps losses are so rare nobody has a history of claims with the lower cost firms. If that is the case it must be highly profitable for them.

Dr. Bob.....thanks for the link.
As you also read .....it does not seem anyone mentions ever having a claim.
Eastern comes up often......but no claims history.
NRA may be a viable option too.
Thanks

I use the Sportsman's Insurance Agency for my guns. Their policy covers quite a bit more than most others to include accidental damage, loss while traveling and custom work/modifications. My homeowners was only going to allow loss at the house, what a waste, you're most likely to need it during shipping or travel.

Glocksig,
Thank you for the link.
Do you know anyone who has ever filed a claim with them?
Curious if anyone has ever filed a claim with the NRA plan.

Paul,
I don't know where you are located so I am not sure if this company can write insurance in your state. I live in Illinois and I use Auto Owners, a Michigan insurer. I have the guns I take out of the house on a rider and the ones I leave in the vault are not on a rider. The is not expensive and my agent tells me it covers the guns for any event, taken from my car, breaking the wrist on a double if I fall, leaving it in the woods - doesn't matter the policy covers it for replacement cost (you have to have to have a replacement cost policy). I have no experience with filing a claim, but I do know that Auto Owners has a very good reputation for paying claims.

You must have a recent appraisal for the guns you carry on the rider and maybe the others - can't remember.

There is a maximum for guns not included on the rider but I can live with that exposure.

Hope this helps,
Mike

I also live in Colorado and this is how mine works also (thru State Farm). it's a "sporting goods" policy (I know, makes me laugh also) and it's stated value. You are paying to insure this specific gun and you say the value is $3,000, you're paying for $3,000.

But as Mike's above, it's a full comprehensive policy. Injured, repairs, whatever, covered. It's not outrageous. About $7/$1000 per year. I never feel bad anymore about taking some of my babies out hunting, shooting, whatever. My friend's are stressing while we sit and eat and I'm enjoying my food thinking "mine's insured". grin

Lone Cowboy,
Thank you for the info..
I too have State Farm. When I was asking for options with my agent she did not offer me that option......(she was not a gun person) overall though happy with State Farm.
Looks like that may be my best option. I too leave guns in locked vehicles while hunting with another gun or as you said having lunch at a cafe......knowing they are insured sure eliminates heart burn.
