I recently turned 60 and here is my birthday present to myself.
A pair of Charles Lancaster 12/20's originally sold in 1933 to Mr. Smith-Bingham by Steven Grant.
Grant took over the business of Charles Lancaster during the great depression. Presumably these guns, started by Lancaster, were part of the sale inventory. The guns have serial numbers in the Steven Grant series not Lancasters. I particularly like the engraving around the serial number on the inside of the fore end iron, something I have never seen before.

These guns were made on William Baker's back action sidelock. Grant generally called them the 'Lightweight' model, 'Twelve Twenty' was coined by H.A.A Thorn, M.D of Charles Lancaster for the same gun. Baker is likely to have made a lot of them.

The detail on these is nice and they look in very good shape. Happy hunting.

Those are very nice indeed. The disc set strikers are such a nice touch, and having dealt indirectly with a gun that WAS NOT equipped with them, and suffered an integral hammer/striker failure (Webley and Scott 700, first shot of pheasant season, 2009) they are something I'm not willing to live without in a conventional double.
Use those guns in the very best of health.

Best,
Ted

Beautiful pair. Nice present to one's self. I've found the need for that often enough. Happy 60th!

"Precious to precious" presents are always the best! If I could
sell off all these clunkers I've saddled myself with over the
years, I'd replace'em all with a nice pair of Brit sidelocks just like those...Geo

But I wouldn't trade the experience of acquiring them and learning about them all!
