Does anyone have any information on J N Scott, a Birmingham gunmaker? Was he any relation to W C Scott. I don't find any information on him. Thanks, Dwight

I have a 14-bore hammerless side by side marked J N Scott and have no information at all on this gun. It is a relatively high quality sidelock but there are no proof marks, serial numbers, or anything (other than the name) to aid in ID, although I am satified the gun is an English import. I did learn that there was a J N Scott who headed up a very large Sporting Goods department for the Simmons Hardware Company of St. Louis; and suspect, with my gun anyway, it was an example named and marketed in the US based on Mr. Scott's reputation. I hope you get some solid information in your quest.

J N Scott was the son of William middleditch Scott, who established W & C Scott& sons in the 1850s. J N went on his own to produce guns in Birmingham. His guns are very good, but not quite the quality on W & C Scott .. MDCD
