Gentlemen, Just wanted to share some photos of my most recent purchase here in Japan: Make: KMG Hamada Model: SxS, Sidelock, DT Bore: 20 Serial # KMG704500 Barrel Length: 27" Overall Length: 43" LOP: 13 3/4" Manufacture Date: ? Pre WW II A Japanese member of our sportsmens club said that Hamada stop making guns in the 1930's but is still a dealer (close by his house). It looks like the extractor may have been replaced and the large side pin replaced, but I'm not smart enough to know what's been done to it. Any one have an idea of its age? Or have any more info on Hamada?
Sincerely, Patrick

Before I spill the beans on the price, does anyone have an idea of the value?
Stocks here ARE often short - less than 12" LOP, sometime as short as 10", but I can generally find enough nice guns with 13 1/2 - 14 1/2" LOP.
Sincerely, Patrick

Seeing as how it is not a well known maker and not much collector interest, I venture a guess at $1500.

Patrick, we'd all be shooting in the dark to come up with a price on a maker whose guns are almost never seen in the States. Obvious quality, but extractor rather than ejector? Cheekpiece (have never seen one on a Japanese double; are they very common?) would also lower value somewhat. Weight? Chokes? I think a Stateside dealer might own that gun a long time if he expected to get much more out of it than 2holer suggested.

Kawaguchisan (the Japanese member of our club) is going to the Hamada shop to try and get the history of the gun, but I will not see him for a while. Plus he speaks no English and my Japanese is very poor, so we use another Japanese member to interpret, but he knows nothing about guns! So, it's sort of humorous at times. There were some posts earlier on this forum that got me interested in this gun - one or two other Hamadas were pictured, so I tracked down where this gun was and was able to purchase it. I'm hoping for a few folks who are more knowlegeable on Japanese Doubles so that I can learn - I've not found any books, so it's just been via online that I learn - and what I get from Kawaguchisan . Thanks for the posts.
Sincerely, Patrick

Patrick, that just means you can write the book on japanese doubles and become the expert. Start with a couple "look what I found and what I found out about it" articles for DGJ, sign a book a deal, and suddenly you will have double gun fame. It's all wine and roses from there, just ask Larry Brown.

Nice looker. Largest pin I have ever seen on a sidelock. Perhaps it is a cover.
