I have recently taken delivery of this drilling. It is in excellent shape and appears to have been used very little. It is 2x12 gauge with 2 3/4" chambers over 7x57R and it came with a Kreighof 22 Mag insert fitted for the right barrel. It also came with a Leica 8 power German post scope in German claw mounts.
The rifle barrel will shoot 100 yard, three shot 1" groups with RWS 140 grain and S&B 173 grain factory loads, and will shoot near 1/2" 3 shot groups with 139 grain Hornady SP Interlocks over anywhere from 42 to 43.5 grain of Hybrid 100-V.
The 22 mag barrel will shoot nice 1 inch groups at 50 yards, dead on the Point of aim.
Now to my question. I have tried a very large number of foster type slugs in it. The left barrel will shoot the Federal premium foster style slugs to just low of the point of aim at 50 yards and about 4 inches right and on vertical at 100 yards. The right barrel hits left of point of aim about 5 inches at 50 yards. Thus the shotgun barrels do not seem to me to be all that well regulated. Is this common in the Simson and is there a way to get them better regulated?
Also, I have seen a variety of opinions on other sites as to whether it is a good idea to shoot foster type slugs out of these tight choked drillings. The slugs definitely leave some lead residue in the choke. Given how soft they are, and the fact they are designed to be shot from choked smooth bores I am curious as to the opinions of those on this site, with respect to shooting foster slugs from this gun. (note -can't get Berneke slugs anywhere in Canada - no distributor here and I checked direct with Berneke). Thanks all for your help with this.
