There's a lot going on with that stock. Seems to have all the blocks ticked except the carved hunting scene option. How's the .300 Apex work in that short barrel?

Not a carved hunting scene, more like a very fine treebark carving/stipling. Has the same in 2 elongated diamond panels on the bottom of the forend. It looks better in person than in the picture. Haven't shot it yet.

I guess I'd call that stock "striking" if it were a painting and the artist was standing next to me. A purist would proclaim: "Californication," and haul out the screwdrivers and open up the Franklin stove....
Be nice to know when it was made; was it during the time when the "Weatherby" style stock was very fashionable? If so, it's a "period piece" at least.

I'm guessing that it was done by the Apex Rifle Company, late 50s early 60s, maybe. The serial # is hand stamped in the forend channel, don't think I've seen that before.

I've seen a number of Apex stock styles, but never anything like that.

I suspect this is well before Kennedy joined them, probably pre-WW2. Note the front sling swivel through the fore end, the schnable, the Mauser suggested side "plates" and the not quite full blown Monte Carlo comb.

Craigster,
I will be rangemaster in April & May. Do I have to listen to a 300 Apex? Your Martini Cadet was a lot quieter.

Waterman Why is it that when I'm at the range somebody sets up right next to me with a braked Ultra Mag? I hate it when that happens. I'll see if I can come up with some plinking loads for the Apex. Terry, thanks for the input. Probably doesn't mean anything, but the serial # dates to 1930.
