I am thinking about making an offer on this gun.I have not a clue as to what it is , but I think it would make a great quail gun. If anyone could help me with any info I would greatly appreciate it .

It is Belgian. It was nitro proofed with 70mm chambers in 1937. The barrels weighed 1.248 kgs at time of proof.

The barrels were made by Delcour-Dupont.

He continued to produce damascus until Belgium was invaded by Germany.

I can not tell who made the gun. It is very nice.

I think those proof marks are from Belgium?

Looks like 2 3/4 12 gauge 12-70 (pic is small)

and based on what I think the proof mark is I think it was proofed in 1977? Probably by Degrijse Pierre

Its definitely got the 17600 psi (nitro) proof

The D with a crown over top just forward of the flats would seem to be an inspectors mark, but I cant find a reference to it.

It seems to be a modern boxlock gun, made to look like a damascus sidelock gun? The rough finish in the non visible areas is common on guns made in Belgium. It is likely not a top quality gun, (compared to the worlds finest guns) but if it fits you, and the price is right it will provide many happy hunts for quail or other game.

I will leave it to the experts to tell you what I got right and what I got wrong.

I think Pete M is right on here as well. Until this post I for one was unaware that damascus barrels were made this late.
Congradulations on a nice find.

The "Super Quality" stamp on the barrels is kind of misleading....I wouldn't offer over $800.00.

Yes some did do faux damascus, but this gun is the real thing. Dupont was making damascus from the late 1890's. First as a barrelsmith, then as a foreman in Henri Pieper's Brazil works barrel shop. He wanted to purchase the shop after Henri died, but could not raise the capital, so his operation was rather small at first. After WWI he opened a much larger shop and was just about the last commercial maker of damascus in Belgium. After the German occupation of WWII, his business never really recovered. That was the end of commerically produced damascus in Belgium.

So, your gun has some historic value in that regard. It is nice example of a high end Belgian field gun. Worth more than some have stated here.

Hopefully some one here will recognize Felag.

Midland in Birmingham made guns ,usually hammer in both single and double with Belgian Damascus up until the out break of war in 1939.This looks like a very little used basic Belgian gun .Rough around the edges but functional . Sort of thing the Spanish built in the 60's and 70's for not a lot of money.

What is the selector in the triggerguard bow? Or what is the additional bar of metal adjacent to the left trigger? With the high serial number probably made in a larger concern. Any significance of the 13 & 16 on the flats and water table? Does Felag denote some sort of partnership?

Kind Regards,

Raimey
